New AJIC Special Thematic Section: BRICS Countries and AI Sovereignty

We are delighted to announce the publication of two special thematic sections in the African Journal of Information and Communication (AJIC), focused on AI sovereignty in the BRICS countries

These thematic sections, published in AJIC Issues No. 34 and No. 35, explore how Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa are shaping their policies, strategies, and regulatory models to foster greater control and autonomy over artificial intelligence technologies and infrastructures.

From Luca Belli’s, CyberBRICS Director, introductory article:

The CyberBRICS project, hosted since 2018 by the Center for Technology and Society (CTS) at FGV Law School in Rio de Janeiro is a multidisciplinary research programme dedicated to analysis of digital policies in the BRICS countries. CyberBRICS and AJIC share the goal of publishing high-quality and impactful research on crucial digital issues affecting the Global South and promoting analyses that reflect the perspectives of leading Global Southern countries. Our current focus at CyberBRICS, on the various facets of AI sovereignty, builds upon the previous phases of our research, which were dedicated to cybersecurity, data governance, digital transformation, and digital sovereignty.
